Room Selection
Once you have completed your registration, you will receive an email the week of March 17 with your time block for Room Selection. That is the time block you log in and select your roommate and room. Room Selection nights are held by class year from March 24 – April 1 (larger classes may need two days). Students who register after March 7 are assigned a selection time on April 2.
2025-2026 Housing Selection Order
Class of 2026
Class of 2027
Class of 2028
Roommate Groups
You must set up your roommate group before your selection time. Roommate groups must select must-fill spaces and spaces that are not traditional-style singles. You must create your roommate groups ahead of time.
If space is a must-fill double, you must have a roommate group of two to select that open space. As another example, in a nine-person townhouse, which is not a must-fill, your roommate group of four may fill four of the spaces, and you will have five random suitemates.
You may also need multiple roommate groups for your plans A, B, and C! If you are selected to a roommate group of four, eRezLife will not allow you to choose a two-person space. As a result, you may need to set up roommate groups of 4+ and then a group of two in case the size space you want is no longer available during your selection time. If you need to split into a roommate group of two, you will select your backup group and then pick the double room.
If you are interested in being assigned to a single room for the upcoming academic semester but cannot select one during the housing selection process, you are welcome to join the Single Room Waitlist. Completing this form does not guarantee a single room.
Students Studying Abroad
Students approved to Study Abroad or Away in Fall 2025 are encouraged to participate in the Housing Assignment process. This ensures a student will still have desired housing if their Study Abroad program is cancelled. Students studying abroad must then cancel their housing assignment once they receive confirmation they will be studying away from Rhodes. Students studying abroad or away will not be charged for the cancellation. The Office of Residence Life will arrange your Spring 2026 housing, and students will be notified in November 2025 before your return to campus.
Residence Life will assign students to their Spring housing assignment based on availability. You are welcome to request to live with specific residents when you complete your housing application, but this assignment will be based on current availability in November 2025.
Students who have not completed the three-year residency requirement will be required to live on-campus when they return from their Study Abroad program until the residency requirement is met.
Resident Assistant (RA) Spaces
All current RAs must participate in the Housing Assignment process. If you are not selected to be an RA or not returning to be an RA for the 2025 – 2026 academic year, you must participate in the Housing Assignment Process. They will be included in their class. Apartment-style RAs (East Village and West Village) will select their apartment mates. RAs must provide roommates’ names to the Office of Residence Life in advance.
Housing Cancellation
Students who cancel their registration or housing after the housing assignment process starts are subject to a progressive cancellation fee.
- Rising seniors and students who have fulfilled the residency requirement:
- If a student cancels by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, the student does not incur a cancellation fee.
- If a student cancels between 5:01 p.m. on March 24 and 5:00 p.m. on May 9, a cancellation fee of $750 will be charged to the student's account.
- Students who cancel after May 9 at 5:00 p.m. are responsible for the total amount of the contract for the academic year.
- If a student registers for housing and decides to participate in a study abroad program during the fall semester, the registration will be deferred to the spring semester, and no cancellation fee will be incurred.
- A student registers for housing and subsequently is released from the residency requirement. The registration is canceled without penalty.
- A student registers for housing and subsequently withdraws or transfers. The student registration is canceled without penalty.
To cancel your application or your housing assignment for Fall 2025, complete the Housing Cancellation Form. The Office of Residence Life will confirm all information submitted with necessary campus partners before determining the requested cancellation.
Gender-Neutral Housing
Gender-neutral housing refers to designated spaces in traditional and apartment-style residence halls open to all students, regardless of gender or sex, during room selection. This means that any student can live with any other student, regardless of gender or sex. There is no application process.
You may be suited/sharing a bathroom or apartment with anybody of any gender or sex.
Gender-neutral housing is not for romantic couples.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, these buildings/floors will be gender-neutral:
- East Village B Apartments
- East Village C – 2nd Floor
- West Village - 2nd Floor
- Parkway - 3rd Floor
- Robinson - 2nd Floor
- Blount - 2nd Floor
- Spann Townhouses
Gender-neutral spaces are designated as must-fill during the room selection process. You must confirm your roommate group before your room selection night. Please note, if you are in a roommate group with somebody who, per eRezLife, is a different gender or sex as you, you will only see available rooms in the above-listed gender-neutral spaces. Students should have multiple, predetermined roommate groups to see various room types during room selection. If you only have a roommate group with mixed gender, and all gender-neutral spaces are taken, zero rooms/halls will display for you on selection night.
Disability Housing Accommodations Requests
Student Accessibility Services (SAS), Residence Life, and Physical Plant work together to ensure students with disabilities have equal access to the college’s housing resources. Students interested in requesting housing accommodations must complete (1) the SAS accommodation request process and (2) the housing registration link through Residence Life. All requests are considered on a case-by-case basis. The housing accommodation application is open and closes on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Continuing students should complete this process for fall semester housing by Saturday, February 15, 2025. Housing accommodation requests submitted after this date will still be considered. However, students approved after the preferred date may need to be placed on a waitlist for a necessary housing assignment to become available. Students who received housing accommodations in the past must renew their accommodations with SAS each year before the preferred date above.
Students who submit late requests, are not approved for a disability-related housing accommodation, or choose not to accept the room offered as an accommodation should complete the standard room selection process through Residence Life.
Examples of Disability-Related Housing Accommodations
Housing accommodation examples include, but are not limited to:
- Wheelchair-accessible room
- Access to a community kitchen in the building
- First-floor room or building with an elevator
- Medical single room
- Room with attached, suited, or in-unit bath
- Visual smoke alarm
- Dietary accommodations related to meal plans and kitchen access
- Service animal or emotional support animal in the residence hall
Important Notes about Approved Housing Accommodations
Housing Accommodation Assignments:
- Residence Life determines all housing accommodation assignments based on available spaces that satisfy the approved accommodation. SAS cannot guarantee a preferred building, room, or floor plan.
- Residence Life will notify students who have been approved for housing accommodations before the preferred date of their tentative fall housing accommodation assignment and before the standard room selection process begins.
- Students who decline their tentative accommodation assignment, fail to respond by the deadline, submit late requests, or are not approved for a disability-related housing accommodation must complete the standard room selection process.
Animal Accommodations:
- Students approved only for a service animal or emotional support animal in housing will complete the regular room selection process to select a location with roommates who agree to live with their animal.
Medical Single Rooms:
- Medical single-room requests are not granted solely based on having a quiet place for study. With the number of people living in residence halls, shared facilities, and shared resources, a single room does not necessarily provide a quieter, more distraction-limited space than a standard shared room.
- The medical single-room accommodation applies to approved students only. Rhodes has a limited number of single rooms. If Residence Life assigns an approved student a medical single room within a suite or apartment, the student cannot bring an additional person into the unit.
- The amount charged to students in approved medical single rooms will be determined based on the residence hall. Students with disabilities who are approved for a medical single-room accommodation will be billed at the lowest rate for the assigned residence hall (e.g., the double room rate). Any student choosing to trade in their medical single room assignment for an available higher-tier room (e.g., apartment-style unit or under-booked double) solely based on preference will be charged the corresponding higher rate.
Housing Accommodation Cancellation:
- If a student with approved housing accommodations declines their tentative assignment or cancels their housing before the housing cancellation deadline, their requested roommate without housing accommodations will also be canceled. If a student with approved housing accommodations cancels their housing after the housing cancellation deadline, their requested roommate without housing accommodations will not be canceled.
Contact SAS for additional information on housing access accommodations or other accommodations and services for students with disabilities.
Gender-Affirming Housing
Rhodes College is committed to ensuring all students have a community to live, learn, and thrive.
Gender-affirming housing (GAH) supports and affirms an individual's gender identity when it differs from the gender they were assigned at birth.
Gender-affirming housing allows students the opportunity to prioritize their needs. Gender-affirming housing assignments may include two or more students mutually agreeing to share a multiple-occupancy bedroom, studio, suite, or apartment, regardless of students’ sex or gender.
The Office of Residence Life determines room assignments for all GAH preference requests based on availability.
Is Gender-Affirming Housing an accommodation?
No. Gender-affirming housing is a preference request a student submits for the housing that best meets their needs. Accommodations are covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), require documentation, and are processed through the Office of Student Accessibility Services.
How do I request Gender-Affirming Housing?
- Complete the Housing Application through eRezLife,
- Complete the online Gender-Affirming Housing request form through eRezLife and
- Accept/Decline your Housing assignment by Monday, March 17, 2025.
What are the deadlines?
- All GAH preference requests should be submitted by February 15, 2025.
- Students must complete the Housing Application by March 7.
- Students will receive their tentative GAH assignments the week of March 3.
- Students will need to accept or decline their GAH assignment by March 17.
What happens if I am approved for a Gender-Affirming Housing request?
Gender-Affirming Housing assignments are determined by the Office of Residence Life and are based on available spaces that best meet student’s needs. When a student is assigned to an apartment-style unit, Residence Life may assign ONE requested roommate/suitemate to the unit.
What if I do not like my tentative Gender-Affirming Housing assignment?
Students who decline the room offered as their Gender-Affirming Housing assignment must complete the standard room selection process through Residence Life.
I am interested in Gender-Neutral Housing. Do I need to complete the GAH preference request form?
No. Gender-neutral housing is available during room selections the week of March 24 for all who choose mixed-gender roommate groups unless those rooms become filled before their selection time. Only students who need gender-affirming care should complete a GAH preference request form.
Are there specific Gender-Affirming Residence Halls?
Gender-affirming housing requests are not limited to specific buildings, allowing for flexibility in finding spaces that best meet student’s needs within the limited spaces on campus. Gender-affirming housing assignments may be placed within Gender-Neutral Housing spaces.
Additional Questions?
For questions about disability-related housing accommodations, contact Student Accessibility Services at sas@rhodes.edu. For any additional housing questions, contact Residence Life at reslifestaff@rhodes.edu.
The deadline for submitting Gender-Affirming Preference Requests is Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Religious Preference Requests
If you feel you have reasonable needs for housing preference based on religious beliefs, please complete the Religious Preference Request form. Requests must be submitted by Saturday, February 15 for consideration.
Students Unable to Log into the System
If you cannot log into the eRezLife system during your allotted time, you may designate a Proxy.
A Proxy is a trusted friend with whom you identify and share your login information. They will then select a room for you.
Your Proxy will log in as you are at your designated time and select a space for you. Be sure your Proxy is aware of the type of space you prefer.
Building Information
Students can access the floor plans for each building on Rhodes.erezlife.com. To do so, click “Bulletins & Resources” on the left side of the page and then select “Resources.” You can access all residence hall floor plans and room dimensions from there.
