Physics – Summer Fellowship in Astronomy

At Rhodes, students are equipped to make life-changing discoveries about themselves and the world and, in some cases, make new discoveries possible for others. Sophomores Hadley Lim and Lily Whitesell joined an international astronomical research team working to prepare NASA's James Webb Space Telescope for its October 2021 launch.

Lim and Whitesell join physics professor Dr. David Rupke in developing software that will enable the telescope to study quasars and their host galaxies. NASA describes the James Webb Space Telescope as “largest, most powerful, and complex space telescope ever built and launched into space.”

“It’s an amazing project,” says Whitesell. “It’s huge that we got to have even a minor role in the work.”
