How did a middle-income, oil-producing democracy transform into a humanitarian crisis with the world’s worst hyperinflation, a refugee crisis and authoritarian regime?
Dr. Jennifer McCoy is Distinguished University Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University. She has served as Director of the Global Studies Institute at GSU and Director of the Carter Center’s Americas Program. Dr. McCoy is a specialist on democratization and polarization, mediation and conflict prevention, elections, and Latin American politics. Her current research focuses on the causes and consequences of polarized politics around the world, including Venezuela, Turkey, Hungary, Egypt, Thailand, Hungary, Greece, Bangladesh, and the United States.
