Happy Birthday, Dr. Rhodes!

Today (Jan. 27), the Society of Physics Students and the Department of Physics will host a party celebrating the birthday of Dr. Peyton Nalle Rhodes, namesake of the college who was a professor of physics. The campus community is invited to the festivities beginning at 4 p.m. in Rhodes Tower 226.
Rhodes was born on Jan. 29, 1900 and would have been 112 this year.
The celebration will include games, cake and a touch of history for all to enjoy.

Founded in 1848, Rhodes College is a private, coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences. Dr Rhodes grew up with my grandfather in Crozet, VA and was in his wedding. When I was a prospective student at Rhodes, my father stayed with him while I stayed in the dorm. He was a lovely man and always said that the college would not have been named for him if his last name had been Raspberry!
