Publication Date: 5/9/2011
Kyle Hatley, who received a B.A. degree in theatre from Rhodes in 2003, is one of two artists selected by the Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City, Mo. to receive a 2011 Generative Performing Artist Award.
Hatley serves as associate director of the Kansas City Repertory Theatre and will receive an unrestricted cash award to further his work as a playwright and director and to contribute to the vitality of the art community.
Since moving to Kansas City in 2008, Hatley has been highly active in the theatre community directing a blues musical for the Kansas City Fringe Festival, writing a number of audio plays including an adaptation of “Pinocchio,” and directing “A Christmas Carol,” just to name a few.
In 2009, The Pitch named Kyle “Best Director in Kansas City.” He currently is working on two new plays—a new musical called “People Fall” and a psychological thriller, “Raise My Hand.”
A public performance of the work of this year’s Generative Performing Awards Fellows is planned for this fall.
