Facilities

Departmental offices, classrooms, and a full range of laboratories are located in the Berthold S. Kennedy Hall. The Atkinson Chemistry Library is also located in Kennedy Hall. The department maintains a wide variety of research equipment and instruments, both to permit faculty members to carry out research reaching to current frontiers and to permit students to have hands-on access to sophisticated equipment.
Major instruments currently available are a 200MHz proton/carbon fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (Gemini 200VT, Varian), a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer with autosampler (G1800A GCD, Hewlett-Packard), a fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer (Nicolet), an ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer (8452A diode array, Hewlett-Packard), and an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAnalyst 100, Perkin Elmer).
